American Legion Post No. 61

The American Legion Post 61, 3rd District, Department of Virginia is located at Legion and Courthouse Road in the county. Charles City Athletic Association

The association sponsors football and cheerleading for county youth ages 5 to 14. Volunteers are always needed to help coach and support teams. To learn more about the association and the teams it supports contact the Athletic Director of Charles City Athletic Association at 804-986-1873.

Charles City County Civic League

The Civic League was organized many years ago to support voter registration and education and to address needs within the community. The League’s interest in making sure local residents had access to medical services led to the development of a medical center which currently houses the Health Department. Charles City County Fair Committee

The Charles City County Fair Committee is composed of local residents who work around the year to plan, coordinate and present the County Fair. All residents are welcome to join … in fact, we need your help! Please call the Extension Office at 652-4743 to let us know you would like to help keep our County Fair one of the best in the region.

Charles City Cultural Alliance

For 14 years the Cultural Alliance has brought live public performances of the highest caliber to Charles City and to its school system. Broad-ranging performances have included the Richmond Symphony, Richmond Ballet, American Indian Dance Theater, the Cuban National Folkloric Dance Ensemble, Leon Bates (pianist) and numerous jazz performers. The Alliance attempts to stimulate, educate and enhance artistic understanding among the people of Charles City.

Charles City Education Foundation

The foundation provides financial support for public school students and teachers through community support and fundraising events. The foundation has helped students participate in college-level summer programs and teachers have acquired The Leader in Me learning materials. Charles City Hot Rod Association

The club was established in 1981 to serve as a positive role model by using automobiles as a focus of interest and pride for community. Meetings are held on the third Friday of each month at 7 pm at the Masonic Lodge on Courthouse Road. The club annually sponsors the car show at the County Fair and participates in the Christmas Parade. For additional information contact President Sonny Lewis at (804) 829-2976.

Charles City County Ruritan Club

The club, which is a sponsor of this site, was organized in 1953. Several of its Charter Members still hold perfect attendance records. Over the years the club has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to local civic, educational and charitable projects ranging from scholarships for high school graduates to the purchase of fire and rescue vehicles. The club’s major fund raiser is the Steakfeast held annually on the third Wednesday in September at Berkeley Plantation. Charles City County Ruritan Steak Feast. Charles City Spiritual Ensemble

The Ensemble seeks to educate people about the experience of Black Americans who struggled for freedom and survival during the time of slavery. Through the singing of Negro Spirituals the Ensemble endeavors to witness to the empowering Spirit of God that still moves people toward hope, unity and self-determination. Charles City County Volunteer Fire Department & EMS

The Charles City Volunteer Fire Department has faithfully served Charles City County since 1974. The Fire Department provides fire and emergency medical service from three stations. A small group of volunteers have formed an Auxiliary to assist the Volunteer Fire and EMS Department in raising funds to assist in the daily operation and/or expansion of their facilities. For additional information contact Fire Station I @ 829-0368 and leave a message for the Auxiliary. A membership committee member will contact you promptly.

Committee on Aging

The Committee on Aging serves to enhance the quality of life enjoyed by aging persons by providing information on subjects of interest to seniors and by providing opportunities for social interaction through trips and other special events. The Committee also serves as a “sounding board” for governing bodies and other institutions interested in the welfare of seniors. Meetings are held the first Wednesday of every month. FeedMore’s Meals on Wheels

FeedMore’s Meals on Wheels provides meals and a friendly volunteer contact each weekday to many homebound residents in Charles City County. Volunteers are needed to deliver meals from Westover Church Monday-Friday from 11:00am-1:00pm. A twice a month commitment is greatly appreciated. If you have several hours a month to help support your community in this manner, please contact Tawana Demery at 804-934-1951 or for specific information.

Friends of Heritage Public Library

The Library Friends group needs you! Friends support the library by soliciting donations of goods, services and contributions to support library activities like the popular summer reading program and by sponsoring events like a tea to show support for library staff and volunteers. The Friends group also helps to recruit library volunteers. Become a Friend today call 804-966-2480.

No Greater Love

No Greater Love was organized in 1982 and continues to this day to be supported by the prayers, financial contributions and volunteer labor of most of the churches in the county. Members work on small home repair construction projects for county residents who might not otherwise be able to afford the repairs. Project Hope @ Quin Rivers, Inc.

Project Hope provides services to adult and child victims and survivors of domestic and sexual violence in the county. Our services include a crisis hotline, individual supportive counseling, weekly empowerment support groups, court/hospital accompaniment, safety planning and more. We also provide education for schools and community groups. All of our services are free and confidential. If you or someone you know is being hurt or abused, or if you would like more information about Project Hope or would like to volunteer, please call our free, 24-hour, confidential hotline at 877-966-4357.

NAACP – Charles City Branch

The NAACP was organized in 1912, and a branch has been active in Charles City for decades. The organization is devoted to community enhancement, public education and the protection of civil rights. The Youth Council, pictured here, meets to discuss issues of particular interest to young people. Meetings are held the Monday after the first Sunday of each month at 8pm at local churches on a rotating schedule. Membership is open to all residents of the county. Young at Heart Club

The Young at Heart Club is sponsored by the Charles City Parks & Recreation Dept. and meets the fourth Monday of every month at 8:30 am at the Charles City Social Center. The club is open to all seniors 55+. Club activities include walking and exercise Monday, Wednesday and Friday, bowling on Tuesday and special events such as picnics, fun day and banquets.
