MCKENNYNathaniel S.14 Mar 1862Parker's Virginia Battery1. (McKenney-McKinney), Private. Age:23. Present: MR #1-13. Captured at Marye's Heights. On 21 Nov 1862 Corp. Lamberth was sent to Charles City Co. after McKenny to arrest him as a deserter. McKenny later had $3 deducted from his pay.
2. To cover the cost incurred in chasing him down. G. O. 57, A. N. Va., dated 18 Apr 1863, reported that McKenny's court martial found him guilty of being AWOL, but not of desertion.
3. He was sentenced to lose $10 per month for 8 months, and to serve 2 months at hard labor wearing a 12 lb. ball on a 3 ft. chain.
4. A later decree sent him to Staunton to do the hard labor on public roads. He was on a post-war pension list. Lived in Richmond Soldiers' Home, 1894-1906, then again from 1915 where he died 4 Apr 1920

3. Since the info on Mountcastle's capture late in the war seems to be irrefutable, it is apparent that the battery clerk made at least one error and a couple of misassumptions.

2. martial were reported by G. O. 57, 18 Apr 1863, ANV. The court found Roach guilty of being AWOL, rather than of desertion as charged. They ordered that he forfeit $10 per month for 6 mo. And submit to hard labor for 1 mo. Wearing a 12 lb. ball on a
3. 3 ft. chain. The court declared itself "thus lenient in view of the youth and good character of the prisoner, and of his good conduct at the battle of Fredericksburg, as testified to by his captain." The labor senternce was later redirected to his
4. battalion for enforcement. Hospitalized in Aug. 1862 for Rheumatism. Deserted again 2 Jul 1864. VSL shows Roach captured at Sayoler's Creek and taken to Pt. Lookout, but that is almost surely an error, possibly resulting from the weveral other

2. a pension post war in Richmond. He entered the Soldiers' Home in Mar 1904, age 68 and died there on 20 Apr 1905. He was buried in Hollywood Cemetery.

2. Captured at Farmville, VA., 6 Apr 1865; released 19 Jun 1865. Roach entered the Richmond Soldiers' Home in Nov. 1915, age 83, and died there 1 Oct. 1924. He was buried in Oakwood Cemetery.
