A family history written by a son of Emanuel Quivers lists Coy Quivers as a son of Jonathan and Sarah Quivers and a brother of Emanuel. Quivers Family Notes, typescript photocopy, Charles City County Richard M. Bowman Center for Local History Archives. The family history further states that Coy Quivers outlived three wives and was buried by his fourth wife in Pennsylvania where he moved after obtaining his freedom. Coy Quivers purchased his freedom in 1848 from Abby Nelson of Clarke County, Virginia, for a sum of $560. The deed was recorded in Petersburg, Virginia. Deed Book 16, p 688. The Nelson/Clarke County connection to Berkeley probably come through later generations of the Harrisons who resided at Millwood in Clarke County.
