William Henry Jones was born a slave at Oak Hill Plantation 21 SEP 1836. After the war he became a very successful freedman. He died 26 OCT 1910 and his will was the subject of a lawsuit. Testimony in the trial provides information dating back to the time he was a slave. Sarah Mitchell v. During the war William Henry Jones was enlisted in the 37th U. S. Colored Infantry, Co. F. 21 MAY 1864 at Norfolk.
