Enlisted at Chesterfield Courthouse in 1780 and was described as 28 years old, 5?9″ tall, black hair, black eyes, yellow complexion, a planter who was born in and a resident of New Kent County; enlisted 11 JUL 1780 for the duration of the war. WALLACE is listed here because it is believed he became a resident of Charles City following the war and is the JAMES WALLIS listed as a free head of household in the 1810 Census. There is a Private James WALLACE who served at Valley Forge in the 1st VA Regiment, Callohill Mennis’s Company. It is unclear if this is the same man.
