A native of Culpepper County, he enlisted in Charles City in MAY 1778 as a substitute and served three months in the company of Capt. John BRADLEY under Col. FLEMING. He marched from a point near the Long Bridge on Chickahominy River to Williamsburg, then to York and then to Hampton, where he was discharged; at Hampton he was in a slight skirmish against a part of CORNWALLIS’ forces which tried to effect a landing; had later service and migrated to Bourbon Co, Kentucky.
